New Perspectives at the Intersection of Gender Roles and Cultural Contexts

At the next scientific evening organized by the Institute of Intercultural Psychology and Education (IIPE) at ELTE Faculty of Education and Psychology, research at the intersection of gender roles and culture will take center stage.
Dr. Zsuzsa Kaló, habilitated associate professor, will analyze women’s experiences related to addiction in different cultural contexts, with special attention to the effects of trauma, social stigma, and marginalization. Drawing on qualitative research, her presentation highlights the importance of trauma-informed approaches in supporting recovery.

Andaç Mamati, PhD student, will present findings from a study based on interviews with 30 Muslim male university students, exploring how they construct and experience masculinity within the Hungarian higher education context. The talk examines how these students navigate the balance between autonomy and traditional expectations, the role of Islam in self-regulation, and the significance of emotional vulnerability and care as strategies for gaining recognition.
