Ambassador of Georgia Pays Introductory Visit to ELTE
On 5 December 2025, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) welcomed H.E. Mr. Nikoloz Laliashvili, Ambassador of Georgia to Hungary, for his introductory visit to the University.

The Ambassador was received by Prof. Gábor Zemplén PhD., Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Ms Eszter Knyihár PhD, Head of the International Strategy Office, and Mr Benedek Zsigmond, orientalist, teacher of Caucasological courses at the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE

During the meeting, participants discussed ELTE’s extensive and dynamically developing network of partnerships with Georgian higher education institutions, which currently includes six active bilateral and Erasmus cooperation agreements

These collaborations span a wide range of academic fields and reflect the growing strategic importance of Georgian–Hungarian academic relations.

Special attention was given to the situation and future prospects of Georgian language education at ELTE, which plays a key role in supporting Georgian studies and strengthening cultural and academic ties between the two countries.

Following the discussion, and with the guidance of Mr Zsigmond Benedek, the Ambassador visited the Georgian Library located at the Faculty of Humanities. The library, officially opened in 2019, is an important hub for Georgian studies at ELTE and a symbol of the University’s long-standing commitment to promoting Georgian language, culture and scholarship.

The visit further reinforced the strong and multifaceted relationship between ELTE and Georgia, contributing to the deepening of academic, cultural and diplomatic cooperation.
